Getting started
Do I need an account to use the app?
No — you can browse public leagues, fixtures, and standings without signing in. An account is only needed to create or manage a league, register as a player, score a match, vote on your availability, or use Find a Team.
How do I reset my password?
On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password?, enter your account email, and we'll send a reset link. If you don't see it, check your spam / junk folder.
I didn't get my verification email.
Verification links can take a minute to arrive and sometimes land in spam / junk. You can resend the link from the verify-email prompt in the app. Creating a league and registering as a player require a verified email.
How do I create an account?
On the web at app.thisover.com. Sign-up is two steps: your account details first, then an optional cricket profile you can skip and fill in later. The iPhone and Android apps are for signing in with that account. A player invited to a league can also sign up from the league's registration link.
How do I create a league or score a match?
Sign in, tap Create league (or Create practice for a quick game), add teams and players, then open a match to score ball-by-ball. Competitive and practice leagues need an organiser plan or the free trial; Box Cricket leagues are free.
How do I switch between light and dark?
Choose Auto, Day or Dark under Edit profile → Appearance. Signed out on a phone, tap the account icon at the top-right. Auto follows your device.
Where is everything in the app?
The tabs along the bottom are Home, Leagues, Community, Chat and More (the three dots).
Home has live matches and Your matches — your own fixtures, events and availability. Watch live lists matches being streamed on YouTube right now, and From ThisOver shows announcements from the ThisOver team. Leagues is where you open a league and work in it. Community is a feed of posts, photos and comments from players (For you, Following and My leagues; you can edit your own posts and are notified when someone comments); tap the three dots on any post or comment to report the content or block the person. Chat reaches ThisOver support. The rest of the app — My Teams, Find a Team, Schedule, Series, Rankings, News, Notifications, Help & Support — is under More (the three dots in the bottom bar).
Find a Team
What is Find a Team?
A board for arranging games between sides who don't already share a league. Open More → Find a Team. A captain posts that their team is free to play; another captain sends a request; if both sides agree, the two of you swap contact details and sort out the rest between yourselves.
There is no chat in the app, by design. Everything after "game on" happens on the phone or by email.
Who can use it?
Signed-in players aged 18 and over. Age is checked against the date of birth on your account, so if yours is missing you'll be asked to add it first — an unknown date of birth is refused rather than assumed to be an adult.
Before you can post or request, you set up a short profile: your team name, your name as the point of contact, where you play, and a phone number and/or email address for the exchange. You also agree to our community standards.
How does it know which teams are near me?
You pick a country and a state or region from a list, and posts are matched on that pair. The app does not read your device location. City is an optional free-text line for people to read — it never affects matching, so a typo there cannot hide your post.
State is coarse in a big country. Use the city line and the venue to tell another captain how far they'd actually be travelling.
What can I put in a post?
Either one game on a date, or a standing slot — "Tuesday and Thursday evenings" — on any of the seven days, with a morning, afternoon or evening bucket per day and an optional end date.
You also pick what you'll be playing with, rather than an overs count: Tape ball, Leather ball, Red tennis ball, Orange ball, or Indoor Box Cricket. Overs are something the two captains agree once they're talking. A venue and a short note are optional.
When are my contact details shared?
Only when both sides have agreed to the same game, and then both cards are swapped at the same moment. Nothing in a public post carries a way to reach you — no number, no email, no handle — and free-text fields are checked before a post goes up so a number can't be smuggled in.
You can withdraw your agreement at any time in your Find a Team setup, which clears your stored details and stops any future exchange. Details already sent to another captain cannot be taken back.
Are there limits?
- Three open posts per person at a time.
- Five requests a day.
- Posts expire after 30 days, or once the date they advertise has passed.
The limits are there to stop anyone collecting contact details in bulk.
Can I change or cancel something?
Yes. You can edit a post, close it so it stops appearing, or delete it outright. A request can be withdrawn before it's answered, and either side can call off a game that was already agreed.
Notifications
What will the app notify me about?
Three things, each with its own switch under More → Notifications:
- Match results — a match you played in has finished.
- Fixtures and events — your team has a new match or event to vote on, plus a reminder the day before a match and a nudge if you haven't answered. Reminders wait until morning rather than arrive between 10 pm and 8 am.
- Teams near you — a team in your area is free to play. This one is off unless you turn it on.
All of them are optional, and you can turn any of them off without losing the others.
One of my leagues is too noisy.
Mute it. The same Notifications screen lists your leagues with a mute switch each, which is useful when an admin has added you to a league you only half follow — league membership doesn't lapse on its own.
Leagues, matches and availability
Can I run a Box Cricket league?
Yes, and it's free to create — no organiser plan needed. Sign in with a verified email and choose Box Cricket when you create. It behaves like a practice league: no series and no points table, and players register the same way rather than being typed in as free text.
How does availability voting work?
Open Home, pick Your matches and mark yourself available, not available, or maybe, with an optional note ("can only make the second half"). Organisers see who has answered and who still needs chasing — "hasn't voted" and "maybe" are kept apart on purpose.
Whoever manages a league can also create an event rather than a fixture — nets, a friendly, anything that needs a headcount — and ask the squad to vote on it the same way. In practice and Box Cricket leagues, which have no fixture list, an event is how the question gets asked at all.
We got the scorecard wrong. Can it be fixed after the match?
Yes. Open the completed match and use Edit scorecard. You can correct or delete deliveries over by over, and the scorecard, totals and stats re-flow from the corrected balls. The action is limited to the people who can manage that match.
The points table or player stats look wrong.
A league admin can open the League tab and tap Recalculate statistics. It rebuilds the table and every player's figures from the league's completed matches, on the league's own points scale.
Can we take photos during a match?
Yes. The scorer taps the camera button on the scoring screen — up to 10 photos an innings and 20 a match. They appear on the match's Photos tab and are visible only to players registered in that league. They are never public.
Can I stream a match straight from my phone?
Yes, on iPhone and Android. On a second phone, open the match in the Live tab and tap Stream this match on YouTube. Connect your YouTube channel once, choose Unlisted or Public, turn on the camera and tap Go live — the live score is drawn on the video. Only an app admin, a league admin or the match's scorer can stream. Your channel must have live streaming turned on (youtube.com → Create → Go live; the first time takes up to 24 hours).
Can people watch our stream inside ThisOver?
Yes. Start the live on YouTube, copy its link, and in the scoring screen open Actions → Link YouTube live and paste it. A Watch live card then appears on the match for everyone following it, playing YouTube's own player with the live score underneath — and the recording afterwards. Anyone who can see the match can watch, so don't link a video meant for a small group.
Can I put the live score on our YouTube or Facebook stream?
Yes. While scoring, open Actions → Copy overlay link and add that link to OBS, Streamlabs, Prism or vMix as a 1920 × 1080 browser source. A score strip updates along the bottom of your video with every ball, with pop-ups for boundaries, wickets and milestones and a card for each new batter and bowler. A player's photo appears on those cards only if they've switched on Show my photo on live streams; everyone else shows initials.
Before your first stream: turn on live streaming for your YouTube channel (youtube.com → Create → Go live) at least a day ahead — YouTube can take up to 24 hours. You'll need a camera, streaming software (OBS on a laptop is the most reliable), and about 5 Mbps of upload. Have one person score and another run the camera. Add &demo=1 to the overlay link to line it up before the match. The step-by-step guide is at thisover.com/features/streaming, and the full checklist is in the app under More → Help & Support → Live streaming.
Can I see my stats for one league or one season?
Yes. On a player profile, the Matches and Statistics tabs have League and Season filters.
Your account
My date of birth is wrong or missing.
You can set it yourself: Edit profile → Date of birth. It matters for Find a Team, which needs it to confirm you're 18 or over.
Who can see my profile photo?
Anyone signed in to ThisOver, whether or not they're in one of your leagues: your photo shows wherever your name has a picture — rankings, rosters, the Playing XI, player of the match, your profile. Visitors who aren't signed in see your initials. Remove the photo under Edit profile and it disappears everywhere.
Will my photo be shown on live streams?
Only if you turn on Show my photo on live streams — you're asked at sign-up, and can change it any time under Edit profile → Account. It's off unless you switch it on. Anyone watching a stream can see a photo you allow; switching it off takes it off streams.
How do I delete my account and data?
In the app, open your profile menu → Edit profile, scroll to Account and tap Delete account. You'll confirm and re-enter your password, and we permanently remove your personal details and disable your sign-in. You can also email support@thisover.com to request deletion.
Where do I buy an organiser plan?
On the website, at app.thisover.com, signed in with the same account. There is nothing to buy inside the iPhone or Android app — it signs you in and reads the plan you already hold.
Safety and reporting
How do I report objectionable content or an abusive user?
Report it in the app, without leaving it. There's a report action on availability posts and fixture requests in Find a Team, on a player's profile, and under More → Help & Support → Report a concern for anything else. Pick a reason, add detail if you want to, and send.
Reports go to a queue an administrator works through, and we aim to review every one within 24 hours. We remove content and disable accounts that break our community standards. A report keeps a copy of the content as it was when you reported it, so deleting a post afterwards doesn't make the report unactionable. You can also email support@thisover.com.
Can I block someone?
Yes. On a Find a Team post, use Block this team. Their posts stop reaching you and they can no longer request a game from you. They are not told. To lift a block, open More → Blocked and tap Unblock.
What isn't allowed?
Abuse, harassment, spam and scams, and pretending to be someone else. Posts are also checked for objectionable language before they go up. Please don't add other people's personal details to a league or a post without their say-so.
